American hard bop tenor saxophonist and flautist Charlie Rouse, (April 6, 1924 – November 30, 1988) had a career marked by his collaboration with Thelonious Monk, which lasted for more than ten years.

While not a household name in jazz circles, Charlie Rouse was nevertheless an important icon of the form and remains among the finest tenors from the golden era of post-bop.
