Here’s a pressing that deserves more attention from collectors Pat Benatar’s breakthrough second album on Canadian Chrysalis from 1980. While everyone knows “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and “Love Is A Battlefield” from her later work, Crimes Of Passion actually represents Benatar at her hardest-rocking peak, before the MTV era softened her edges. This is where she perfected that four-octave powerhouse voice over Neil Giraldo’s razor-sharp guitar work, creating a template that influenced countless female rock singers who followed. The album hit number two on the Billboard 200 and established her as one of the few women who could legitimately claim space in the hard rock arena alongside her male contemporaries.
