Here’s a Canadian pressing of Rod Stewart’s “A Night On The Town” from 1976, representing the peak of his transition from folk-rock troubadour to stadium-filling superstar. This album captures Stewart at a fascinating crossroads – still rooted in the storytelling tradition that made his early solo work so compelling, yet embracing the more commercial sound that would define his late-70s output. The record spawned “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright),” which became his second number-one hit, but it’s the album tracks like “The Killing of Georgie” that showcase Stewart’s continued willingness to tackle complex social themes with both sensitivity and his trademark raspy vulnerability.
